Russ August & Kabat Expands Its Intellectual Property Department with Addition of Partner Neil A. Rubin and Associates Arka D. Chatterjee and Justin E. Maio.
Russ August & Kabat is pleased to announce that Neil A. Rubin, Arka D. Chatterjee and Justin E. Maio have joined the firm’s litigation and intellectual property departments, as partner and associates, respectively.
Mr. Rubin’s practice focuses on patent, trade secret and other intellectual property litigation, for clients in the computer security, networking, electronics, software and financial industries. He has litigated patent, trade secret, copyright and antitrust matters in the district courts, International Trade Commission and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, from the pre-suit investigation stage through appeal.
Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, Mr. Rubin was a lawyer at Latham & Watkins from 2006 to 2016, where he was a member of the Litigation & Trial Department’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice group. Mr. Rubin earned his law degree from Stanford University Law School. He also holds physics degrees from Stanford, Cambridge and Case Western Reserve Universities. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and attended Cambridge University as a Churchill Scholar. As a PhD student at Stanford, his area of research was solid state physics. Mr. Rubin was an award-winning teaching assistant, and his PhD advisor was 1998 Nobel Prize winner Robert Laughlin.
Mr. Chatterjee’s practice focuses on patent litigation in a wide range of technologies. He has litigated disputes involving DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, geophysics and seismology, semiconductor design and fabrication, network design and security, and software. Complementing his patent litigation expertise, Mr. Chatterjee has handled copyright and trademark matters for clients in the entertainment and garment industries.
Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, Mr. Chatterjee was an attorney with the law firms of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, and Irell & Manella LLP. Before earning his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar, he worked as a researcher in the life sciences, exploring the etiology of and treatments for various inflammatory diseases and cancer.
Mr. Maio’s practice focuses on trademark prosecution and related matters. He has filed, prosecuted and defended trademarks before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and secured trademarks for clients internationally.
Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, Mr. Maio was an attorney for Keegan & Baker, LLP in real-estate litigation and Associated Production Music, LLC, where he focused on royalty agreements. He earned his law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law with a Dean’s Merit Scholarship and was awarded CALI Certificates in Contracts and Mediation Theory & Practice. He also earned a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution, which is ranked as the top program of its kind in the nation. Mr. Maio is a registered as a patent attorney before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
